SNYDER, JEAN, 82, died peacefully at home in South Miami on Saturday evening, April 19, as she was undergoing hospice care for a cancer diagnosed in early January. She was buried in the Riverside Gorden Cemetery, Mt. Nebo, Kendall, on April 22. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Abe and Anna Finkelstein, Jean met her future husband, Carl, as they were both about to enter the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation in 1953, with Jean earning an A.B. in English Literature, they married and moved to Columbus, OH, where Jean worked at the Chemical Abstracts Service. Their first son, Steven, was born while they were in Columbus. Their second son, Howard, was born in Pittsburgh. They moved in 1961 to Miami-Dade County, FL, settling in South Miami in 1963. In 1981 Jean earned an M.S. in Library Science from the Florida State University. She then served as a law librarian for a major Miami law firm for approximately 15 years, following which she maintained the libraries of two smaller law firms for several additional years before retiring. Throughout their marriage of more than 60 years Jean and Carl traveled extensively and enjoyed a variety of plays, concerts, musicals, movies and similar cultural events at home and abroad. Jean is survived by her two sons, Steven and Howard; her granddaughter, Sarah; her nieces, Kathryn Wekselman and Marjorie Goldman; her nephew, Bill Wekselman; and by her husband, Carl, who will continue to love her forever. All who have known her have recognized her warm personality, her infectious smile and laughter, and her complete contentment with simply being herself. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jean's favorite establishment, the South Miami Branch Library of the Miami-Dade Public Library System, 6000 Sunset Dr., 305-667-6121.
