Obituary
  • "Alan: Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing..."

KIPNIS, THEODORE, 93, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2014. Beloved husband of Pearl (for 72 years), cherished father of Priscilla and Allan Friedland, Alan and Anna Marie Kipnis, and Steven and Kathy Kipnis. Adored grandfather ("Baboo") of Randy Friedland, Melissa and Matthew Blank, Stacy Friedland, Joseph, Anna Marie, Andrew, and Lauren Kipnis, Lisa and Jason Macko, Alex and Caroline Kipnis. Treasured great-grandfather of Emily and Jonathan Blank, Shelby Sanders, and Marlo and Ella Friedland. Dearest brother of Evelyn Lowell and "Uncle Teddy" to Susan and Joanne Lowell and Helaine Schank and Harvey Donowitz. Dearly loved friend of Sheila and Ted Hollo and Kathy and Richie Lesser. He will always be remembered as a handsome, dapper, elegant, gentleman who was one of a kind. A longtime resident of Miami Beach, Ted was the consummate hotelman and along with his brother in law, Arthur M. Lowell and his father, Irving Kipnis, built and operated numerous hotels, including the Hyde Park, Poinciana, Shore Club, Biscayne Terrace, Causeway Inn and The Seville. After retirement, he and Pearl became volunteers at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He loved working behind the information desk in the hospital lobby, greeting all the visitors as though he were still behind the front desk of one of his hotels. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dee Green for her devotion and the out-standing care she provided and to Desmarie Clark for being there whenever she was called upon to help. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation, 4300 Alton Road, Miami Beach, FL 33140.
