ROEN, JAMES "Jim" PAUL ELLIOT was born the 11th of September 1944 in San Francisco, California to Annie Lee Tedder and Paul Brandt Roen, and passed away suddenly on the 29th of August 2014. Jim met his wife Mary Margaret at the Jazz Festival in New Orleans and they married in 1988. He loved the city for its vibrant spirit and the abundance of good food and drink which he always embraced. Jim was the father of three children, Megan Roen Forman (McLain Jay Forman II), James Paul Brandt Roen, and Catherine Cornelia Rose Roen, and had one beautiful granddaughter, Camille Forman. While he experienced many successes during his lifetime, Jim was most proud of his family and their accomplishments. Jim graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas in 1968. He worked in commercial real estate for 15 years during which time he achieved two of the highest professional designations, the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), and the Society of Industrial Office Realtors (SIOR). In 1987, Jim, at the age of 44, went to Loyola University School of Law and graduated in 1990, realizing his lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. Jim was voted by his peers an AV Martindale-Hubbell rated attorney for his legal ability and his professional ethics. He worked in the areas of business, real estate, breach of contract, and judgment litigation. Jim was the past president of the Coral Gables Bar Association, serving as such from 2005-2006, and remained on the board for many years. He had been an active member of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables. Among the many things that Jim enjoyed doing, was attending Sunday morning mass at St. Hugh Catholic Church with his family. He loved the outdoors and his children will cherish fond memories of their fishing, hunting, and hiking trips. Jim Roen's family laments the loss of a loving husband, father, and friend. While he will not be here on earth to witness many milestones, his family knows that he will be guiding them towards those milestones as a guardian angel in heaven. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Thursday, September 4th at Stanfill Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 7:30 PM. The funeral will be held at St. Hugh Catholic Church, on Friday September 5th, at 1:30 pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Hugh Catholic Church's Grove Outreach or the Carrollton Scholarship fund.
