Robert L. Schumacker, PhD, Lt. Col United States Air Force, Retired. August 18, 1922 - January 31, 2014. Born to Louis and Edna, Chicago, IL. Older brother to Rich and Tom. Joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 flying 41 bombing missions over Europe with the 8th Air Force at the age of 22. Awarded the Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Air Medal and Three Leaf Cluster. Met and married his beloved Audrey in 1947. His military career enabled them to travel the world and pursue his education, earning his Master's Degree at the University of Oklahoma. After retiring from service he earned his PhD at the University of Washington in Management Science in 1968. The family settled in Miami after Dr. Schumacker took a teaching position at the University of Miami, where he remained for 22 years. Following his retirement from the University of Miami, he accepted a position at Barry University where he developed their Executive MBA program. Finally retiring in 1995. He was a supporter of many charitable organizations and causes for the betterment of society, including Heifer International, Doctors without Borders and many more. His active lifestyle included running, swimming, playing tennis, and he continued swimming and walking into his 91st year. Brilliant father to daughter Michelle born in Tachikawa ,Japan, Mary born in Condon, Oregon, Ellen born in Biloxi, Mississippi and Sharon born in Oklahoma City. Friend and Father-in-law to James, Brian, Marty and Gerry. Inspired Grandfather to Tony, Elizabeth, Kathryn, Jessica, Joseph, Cameron and Audrey. Step-Grandfather to Nyle and Drew. Mentor and Grandfather-in-law to Romulo and Ian. Great Grandfather to Romulo IV. Dr. Schumacker touched many lives in South Florida and around the world during this military career, as a patriot, teacher, mentor, parent, grandparent, uncle and friend. His unrelenting optimism shined brightly on us for 91 vigorous years. A remembrance celebration will be held at the Deering Estate 16701 SW 72nd Avenue on Monday February 10, at 5:00pm.
