James Anderson Obituary

ANDERSON, JAMES W., 87 passed away on March 12, 2014. Jim was born July 29, 1926 in St. Louis County, Missouri. He was a proud Veteran having served in the Pacific theater as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War ll. Jim was predeceased by his wife, concert pianist Andree Juliette Brun. As a sales executive for ABC-TV he negotiated Gillette's launching telecast of the upstart American Football League in 1960. Jim loved Joe Namath's lifestyle and was present at the Orange Bowl in Miami for Super Bowl lll in 1969 when the 18-22 point underdog New York Jets trounced the Baltimore Colts 16-7 in one of the greatest sports upsets in history. Jim watched Joe Namath raise his right pointing finger in the air signifying their number one status as the Jets ran off the field through the tunnel to the locker room. Jim also sold his recording hero, Frank Sinatra, to a series of one hour specials to Jim Ellers CEO of Timex Corporation. Those one hour Timex specials with "Frank Sinatra and Friends" included Bing Crosby and the "Welcome Home Elvis" special in 1960. It was Elvis' first television appearance since his military service in Germany. Jim had early success in selling ABC-TV's daybreak time-slot from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to the Young and Rubencamp Advertising Agency and their twenty accounts. Shows like Johnny Carson's "Who do you Trust?" and other variety programming time slots were sold to Cheesebrough-Ponds and Ford with six month commitments. Jim started his career selling the sponsors of UHF-TV in St. Louis, MO at "a-dollar-a-holler." Visitation will be at the Gregg L. Mason Funeral Home, 10936 N.E. 6th Avenue, Miami, Florida, 33161 on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial with a Military Honor Guard will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, Florida, 33449 on Wednesday, April 30 at 10:15am.

Over the years Jim Anderson was a friend and client for his Rent-free book covers and publicity for Juliette Brun (who played on our piano) and other projects. He was energetic and had a forceful personality with distinct preferences.
