TAINTOR, JAMES "JIM" SPENCER III, was born in Miami February 28, 1943, and passed away January 5, 2016. Jim graduated from Miami Edison in 1961 and Emory University in 1965. Jim served as an active member for 1 year and in the reserves for 7 years in United States Coast Guard following graduation from college. He married Ann Jones in 1968 and settled on Key Biscayne. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, his children Dr. Jennifer S. Taintor, Dr. James Spencer Taintor IV and Randolph Chitty Taintor, his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Taintor, and his grandchildren James Spencer Taintor V and Emma Taintor, and Aiden Joe Taintor. An insurance agent for 50 years with Stembler-Adams & Sweet, Inc., American Phoenix of Miami, HRH of Miami and Willis. Jim unselfishly has served on many insurance and other local business boards. He first was appointed to IIADC in the 1980s, served as a director for several years, and served as President of IIADC during 1999-2000. Jim was a member of the FAIA Legislative Committee. Education was and still is important to Jim Taintor. Jim attended the Aetna Casualty & Surety Home Office Sales Course and received his Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter designation. Jim was the President of the CPCU Society, South Florida Chapter, 1981-82. His commitment to his profession was reflected by him receiving Florida Insurance Man of the year and the Florida Lifetime Distinguished Award for Insurance in 2010. Jim became very involved in the establishment of the Village of Key Biscayne and assisted the Village with insurance requirements. He served as Council Member from 2010 to 2015 and Vice Mayor 2015. Additionally, Jim was active member of Key Biscayne Yacht Club serving as Fleet Captain 1986 to 1987 and Commodore 1995 to 1996. An avid boater, fisherman, and lobster diver, Jim was very instrumental in starting the annual IIADC fishing tournament. He was president of Key Biscayne Anglers Club. He passed this love of the water to his children and grandchildren. Traveling was a passion of which he accomplished with friends and family. Special thanks to Heartland Hospice and Kendall Regional Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care. Memorial service will be held on Friday January 8 at 10 am at St. Christopher's by the Sea of Key Biscayne. Dear Ann, Jen, James & Randy,
Our hearts and prayers are with you.
They say a life well lived is the best revenge......Jim surely did. He was a model Dad, Citizen and Husband. His love of you and the kids was apparent in his eyes and actions. They also say: What you are in your heart, you wear on your face.
Jim was always smiling. He was his own man. May God's arms comfort you all now and in the months to come. Much love, P/C Chris & P/SB Sam xoxoxox
