Marietta Santo Obituary

Marietta Holly (Brunback) Santo, 89, went home to her Lord for Christmas on Dec. 10, 2012.
Holly was born to William Jones and Ida Barbara (Holt) Davis near Rhea's Mill, Ark., on Aug. 16, 1923.
Growing up in rural Arkansas and Oklahoma during the Great Depression, losing an infant sister when she was very young and caring for her ailing mother taught Holly how to cope with life's downs and enjoy every day of life's ups.
In late 1943, she traveled by train with her mother, younger brother, and her small son to join her father and her husband Ken Brumback in Klamath Falls. Three more children were born to the couple in the next three and half years. The family moved to Medford in 1956. Holly and Ken returned to Klamath Falls in 1967. They later divorced.
It was in November 1970, when she married Charles M. Santo, that Holly learned what it felt like to be taken care of instead of being the main caregiver. They successfully merged two grown families, worked together, traveled, and laughed together until his death in 1993.
Holly spent her life as a homemaker in the fullest sense, cooking wonderful meals, sewing beautiful clothes, and taking care of everyone. Although she only had an eighth grade education, she was an avid reader who continued learning her entire life. Her great-grandchildren were amazed by the extent of her knowledge.
She is survived by her step-children Frank and wife Jane Boardman, Debra Allison, and William and wife Sandy Santo and their 11 children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sons and daughters-in-law David and Donna Brumback of Medford and Dennis and Pat Brumback of Klamath Falls; daughter Vicki Sue DePrez of San Diego, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Paul Wunder of Klamath Falls; five granddaughters Teresa and John Sanders, Robin and Tim Clevenger, all of Medford, Kristina and Chris Howard and Paula and Jason Tobias, all of Klamath Falls, and Denice Brumback of Wichita, Kan.; grandson Aaron Brumback also of Wichita; 16 great-grandchildren, including Beau Howard, Will Howard, Nathan Tobias, and Dylan Tobias, all of Klamath Falls; and five great-great-grandchildren with another on the way.
In addition to her parents, siblings, and her beloved husband Chuck, she was preceded in death by her grandson Greg Wunder.
A service of tribute and love will be held at Eternal Hills Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at 1 p.m.
Mom, Grandma, Nana, Nanny Old, you taught us to love, laugh, and face life with strength. You are loved and will be missed.

I am so sorry that I lost track of Holly. She was my neighbor for a number of years and I continued to visit her after she and Chuck moved and then when she was living on Avalon Street. However, when I could no longer reach her on the phone, I just let her friendship go. As a result I had not talked to her for a couple of years. She was a lovely woman and I'm truly sorry that I lost touch with her.
