Beatrice ""Bea"" Jean Smith, 82, died in Klamath Falls, Ore., April 30, 2013. Private cremation and inurnment was at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens.
Bea was born Feb. 27, 1931, to Dr. Sydney and Marjorie Lees Fine. She grew up in Trenton, N. J., graduating from Trenton High School. She went on to Philadelphia College of Art and became an accomplished artist. After her marriage ended she raised her two children, Christine and Roger, as a single parent. She worked for the State of New Jersey as a graphic designer. She also worked as an independent artist and dog trainer. She was known for her training of schnauzers, including national champions in U.S., Canada and Bermuda.
She enjoyed her dogs and was involved in many dog rescue organizations, obedience training and show competitions. She also enjoyed oil painting and art shows. After her retirement as a graphic design artist she graduated in 1990 with her Bachelor in Science. In 2011 she moved from New Jersey to Klamath Falls to be near her son due to her health.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Roger and Terry Smith of Klamath Falls, Ore.; daughter: Christine Anderson of Aspen, Colo.; sister: Marg Kliener of N.J.; grandchildren: Jesse Smith, Brian Smith, Katherine Isaacson and Lily Isaacson; great-grandchildren: Brynn and Camille; and her dog Wendy.
