Charles Robert "Chuck" Roethler, 76, passed away July 9, 2014, with family by his side. He was born July 10, 1937, in Alliance, Neb., to Loyal and Mary (Gapter) Roethler. Chuck grew up in Alliance and finished high school there and then moved to Oregon in 1957. He also lived in Dorris, Tulelake and finally Alturas, Calif. He married Ila Dec. 31, 1979, in Reno, Nev. He worked at Gasser and Dunham, Basin Fertilizer, and also was self-employed in Alturas with his own business, Roethler's Equipment Rental. He loved fishing, hunting, and working in his garden and yard. He also loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his children, Debi (Jeff) Nuss of Hutchinson, Kan., Terri (Victor) Monarez of Newton, Kan., Suzie Doig of Ketchikan, Alaska, Debbie (Mickey) Cowan of Ketchikan, Gavin (Kristi) Charrier of Ketchikan, and Harlan (Deb) Charrier of Alturas; sister, Leona (Martin) Freimuth of Alliance; brother, Wayne (Elaine) Lahoda of Klamath Falls, Ore.; four nieces; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila; brothers, Eddie and Gary; sisters, Jenny and Chris; parents, Loyal and Mary; and granddaughter, Jarah Rae Loewen. At a later date, Chuck and Ila's ashes will be laid to rest at Misty Fjords National Monument, surrounded by the beautiful ocean waters and peaceful beaches of Alaska.
