George S. Woodke(1937 - 2013)

George S Woodke
George was born Dec 17, 1937, and unexpectedly taken from us on Thursday July 11, 2013, in Newport, Ore., while visiting family.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Darlene Woodke, his sons Bill Woodke, Jim Woodke, Dennis Woodke and daughter Jeri Schipper and their families, including six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, six brothers and sisters, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
He joined the United States Army in 1956. After serving, George took a job with Southern Pacific Railroad in Eugene, Ore. He married in 1965 and lived in Eugene until 1980. He transferred to Klamath Falls, Ore., and retired in 1993.
He took great pride in his job and relished the many friendships he made during his time of employment. During retirement, they lived near family in Eugene, Albany, Newport, and Steilacoom, Wash.
He had a passion for woodworking and was the founder of Woodke's Wooden Wonders, a wooden toy and curiosity business. He loved camping, the outdoors and traveling across the U.S. and up into Alaska. He was always known to steal the whip cream or a bite of dessert from an unsuspecting family member. There are tons of fun memories such as grandpa riding the carousel over and over again on the same two ponies, Buck and Kitten, and swinging in the backyard with any puppy in the vicinity. He always enjoyed dessert and coffee in the evening. He enjoyed life to the end. He was loved and will be truly missed.
There will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Fund.
