James Rex "JR" Chastain, a resident of Klamath Falls, died March 25, 2014, at age 86. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Calvary Temple at 2161 Garden Ave. O'Hair Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. JR was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Peach Orchard, Ark. After finishing school, he took a train to Portland, Ore., and got a job working in the shipyards. Soon after, he joined the military. He was discharged in 1947. He then moved to Dorris, Calif., and held several positions. He worked in the lumber mill, for Pepsi and owned his own gas station. After his gas station burned down, he took a job in the 1950s with the road maintenance department for the city of Klamath Falls. He worked there until retirement, 12 years ago. JR was an all-around handyman and could fix anything. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. His other favorite activities included dancing at the senior center and "torturing" his daughters in good fun. JR was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
and the Elks Lodge

He is survived by daughters, Neona Chastain of Canby, Ore., and Louann Chastain of Grants Pass; son, Ronnie Chastain of Central Point; sisters, Pauline Connor of Klamath Falls, Ardys Thomas of Medford, Joetta McCoy of Pinole, Calif., and Betty Chastain of Pinole; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his very special sweetheart, Faye Robinson of Klamath Falls.
