Mary M Uerlings(1925-2013)

Mary M. (Bishop) Uerlings of Corvallis passed away April 17, 2013
She was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Soperton, Wis., to William A. and Bertha E. Bishop.
In 1930, her family moved to Klamath Falls, where she graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1942.
She married George R. Uerlings Feb. 19, 1949, was divorced in 1969 and moved to Albany.
Mary worked as office manager at many new car dealerships across Oregon with time in Klamath Falls, Lebanon, Redmond, Beaverton and Portland. She was often sought out by General Motors Acceptance Corp. to step into dealerships that had voids in their office management.
She was proud to be a "Commando" in the 1940s in a Klamath Basin young women's organization, which supported the local military personnel, similar to the U.S.O. Mary also was active in Business and Professional Women and Soroptimist, where she served as president of the North Portland chapter in 1979.
In 1998, she moved to Samaritan Village in Corvallis, where she was instrumental in the fundraising that acquired a handicapped accessible van for the residents and ran its library. She was an avid sports fan and went to many Oregon State University Beavers football games with her friends. She was always watching or listening to OSU sports, Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, and the Portland Trail Blazers.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother William L. Bishop and nephew Paul Bishop.
She is survived by her children, James R. Uerlings of Klamath Falls, Joan Smith of New Port Richey, Fla., and Steve Uerlings and wife Sandie Campbell of Corvallis. Grandchildren include Matt Uerlings, wife Danielle and great- grandchildren Cade and Keira; Lauren (Smith) and husband Elie Rouhana of Land O'Lakes, Fla.; Scott Uerlings and wife Heather of Beaverton; Amanda Uerlings of Portland; Brad Uerlings of Independence; Erin Uerlings of New York City, N.Y.; and Megan and Kate Campbell of Corvallis.
A memorial service will be conducted in the near future.
