Nisha Hadley went to her home in Heaven on Dec. 5, 2013, in Pendleton, Ore., at the age of 96.
Nisha was a longtime resident of Bly before moving to Pendleton in 2000 to live with her daughter and son-in-law Jerry and Darlene Dillavou. Due to declining health and the need for more specialized care, she moved in 2008 to Patricia Cant's Adult Care Home, where she was well cared for until her death.
Vernetia Marie (Nisha) and her twin sister Vernita Marice (Nita) were born in Paisley, Ore., on Sept. 7, 1917, to Frederick L. and Della May Bevel Bannister. Nisha grew up in Paisley along with her three sisters and three brothers. Sisters Clara Pauck, Nita Pollock, and Ethel Elder-Fairchild and brothers Joe, Norman, and Fint Bannister all preceded her in death.
In 1934, Nisha became the wife of Herbert Hadley. They were married in Paisley, where they resided during their early years. Their two children Darlene and Rodney "Butch" were born while they lived in Paisley. Herb worked as fire watch at a lookout station, and Nisha and the children lived with him at the station during fire seasons.
The Hadleys moved in 1940 to Bly, where Herb was employed at the U.S. Forest Service as fire control officer for 39 years until his retirement. Nisha worked at Protsmans Store and later the Sycan Store until she accepted the position of Bly Postmaster. She was postmaster for 25 years. Nisha and Herb were married for 58 years at the time of his death in 1992.
Nisha was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a faithful friend. She was well known and active in the Bly community and a faithful member of the Bly Christian Missionary Church.
Surviving and left to honor her life are Nisha's daughter Darlene and her husband Jerry; Nisha's son Rodney "Butch" and his wife Leeanna; grandchildren David (Denice) Hadley, Rod (Beth) Hadley, Teyna Hadley Longacre, and Gary (Linda) Dillavou; great-grandchildren Shane, Katie and Nicole Hadley; Nick and Sam Hadley, Ashley (Hadley) Cleland, Bradley, Brandon, Lacey, Lane and Katie Hadley, and Mandy, Chad, and Casey Longacre. There are great-great-grandchildren and also nieces, nephews, and special nephew Ted Pauck.
A celebration of Nisha's life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at 1 p.m. in Eternal Hills Chapel. Eternal Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
