Ruth Schiller Jackson, 97, of Topeka, Kan., passed away April 29, 2013, in Stormont-Vail Hospital.
She was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Kirwin, Kan., to Frank William Gustave and Edith May (Thomas) Schiller.
Ruth grew up and attended elementary school in Kirwin. In 1924, her family moved to Abilene, Kan., where Ruth graduated from high school in 1932. She attended Park College in Parkville, Mo., for one year. She transferred to Fort Hays State University, where she graduated in 1936 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Ruth taught high school from 1936 to 1941 in Nortonville, Clifton and McPherson, Kan.
She married John H. Jackson in Klamath Falls, Ore., where they lived for a short time, returning to Topeka in 1952. She was a medical secretary for the Menninger Foundation, retiring after 32 years.
Ruth was a member of First Lutheran Church; Order of the Eastern Star, Topeka Chapter No. 462; American Association of University Women; lifetime member of Alumni Association at Fort Hays State University; Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post No. 1650 Women's Auxiliary; and Hill Toppers (Menninger Foundation), where she served as treasurer from 1983 to 1986.
Survivors include two sons David H. Jackson of Fort Scott, Kan., and Michael H. Jackson of McBride, British Columbia, Canada; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Francis T. Schiller and sister Katherine Mulanax.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Ruth will lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel-Mid-Town Chapel.
