William J. Barnett(1928 - 2012)

On Thursday, Sept. 27, William J. Barnett Sr., 84, passed away peacefully.
His son and daughter-in-law were holding Bill's hands as he took his last breath here on this earth.
Bill was born June 10, 1928, in Glenwood, Ark. He was raised on a farm in Dorris, Calif., by his parents Winnie and Jewel Barnett. In 1944, he moved to Klamath Falls, Ore. He graduated from Klamath Union High School and spent some time serving our country in the Army. He married the love of his life, beautiful Betty Crawford. They had one son William J. "Butch" Barnett Jr.
Bill suffered from one of the largest known brain tumors. He survived for more than 50 years after a major surgery and several others to follow.
For more than 30 years, he worked as a salesman for Dugan Chevrolet. He spent many nights and weekends driving to Dorris to work on his parents' farm. Before that, he would be seen working at Lucky Lanes or Holiday Bowl. He was an avid bowler and later found joy in the game of golf. Much time was spent with family and friends boating on Klamath Lake and Shasta Lake. At home, he enjoyed pampering his flowers. He was very involved in our community, being a member of Reames Golf & Country Club, a Mason, 32nd Scottish Rite, Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and a Shriner.
After retirement, he worked at his sister's store, Skoog's Market, in Dorris. He read for the SMART program at Peterson Elementary School, where his daughter in-law Karen taught.
One of Bill's greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren Holly and Alex Barnett. Some of those precious times were spent boating, camping, golfing, and watching them in sports events, piano recitals and school programs.
He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His later years were spent with a special partner, the late Peggy Willis.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law William J. and Karen Barnett; grandchildren Alex and Holly Barnett; sister and brothers and their spouses Mary Skoog of Dorris, Stan and Mary Barnett of Macdoel, Calif., and Steve Barnett and Susan of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill Crawford, Larry Crawford and Rose Mary Crawford, all of Klamath Falls, Marjorie Barnett of Castle Rock, Wash., and Addie Lundquist; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Barnett, parents Winnie and Jewel Barnett, brothers Ted Barnett, Don Barnett and Jay Barnett, brothers-in-law Arnie Skoog and Don Crawford, sister-in-law Anne Crawford and special partner Peggy Willis.
A family graveside service will be held at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. in the Baptist Church, 3052 Homedale Road. Pastor Bill Swartz will be officiating.
We appreciated the wonderful care given by High Desert Hospice.
Davenport's Chapel, now at 2680 Memorial Drive, is in charge of the arrangements.
