Irv was born on Oct. 15, 1932, to Alice Abramson and Irving Cater in Minneapolis, Minn.
After growing up in that area, he attended and graduated from University of Minnesota. He then graduated from University of Minnesota Dental School. Upon graduation, he
married Helen Snyder on Dec. 27, 1957. In 1957, he also enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a 1st lieutenant, serving until 1960 when he was honorably discharged as a captain. Irv and Helen then moved to Klamath Falls, where he began practicing dentistry in private practice, retiring in 1995. All in all, Irv practiced dentistry for over 44 years.
He was a member of the United Evangelical Free Church, where he served on the missions committee for a number of years. He was a board member of the Klamath Falls Gospel Mission, Christian Business Men's Association and the Gideons. He was also a member of the
Academy of General Dentistry and a member of Klamath Falls Kiwanis, where he served as past president.
Irv loved to fish and hunt and was involved in almost every organization involved in hunting, including Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Unlimited, Oregon Hunters Association, and Eagle's Nest building. In
addition, he also loved to run marathons, including Pike's Peak, Boston, and Crater Lake. In the past, he enjoyed hunting wild mushrooms. In short, if Irv was not found in church, you could find him somewhere in the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Helen; son and daughter-in-law Matt and Sherry Cater of Lombard, Ill.; daughter Sue Cater of Portland, Ore.; grandson Rhett Cater of Lombard; sister Jackie Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa.
Those wishing to do so may send memorial contributions to the Evangelical Free Church Missions .
