Maxine Alberta Stampley Luery passed away on Dec. 1, 2012, at the age of 97 in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Maxine was born on Nov. 24, 1915, to Ross and Nellie Stampley in Forestville, Calif.
Her family moved to Poe Valley when she was 6 months old. She was raised in Klamath Falls and graduated from Klamath Union High School. After high school, she continued her education, attending Normal School in Ashland, Ore., where she received her teaching certificate.
She married Jerry Van Buskirk in 1935 and they had three children.
Maxine impacted the lives of many young children as a kindergarten and grade school teacher in Klamath Falls, Tulelake, Santa Rosa, and Bakersfield in California, and Illinois.
Later, she married Jim Mac Farlane and they lived in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Illinois.
In Burns, Ore., she taught in Job Corps, making a positive difference in the lives of teens and young adults.
In 1990, she lived in Florida and married the love of her life Alfred Luery. They spent three happy years together before he passed away.
Maxine returned to Klamath Falls, which was always "home" to her, in 1992.
She was very active and enjoyed people. After her retirement, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, worked at Sky Lakes Medical Center as a member of the guild, and was active in the Retired Teachers Kitchen Band.
Maxine is survived by her daughter Jerry Van Buskirk-Bly; son and daughter-in-law Bob and Shannon Van Buskirk; grandchildren Jeff Houston, Rick (and Erin) Houston, Jamie and Grace Varbel, Tammy (and Justin) Eldridge, Jeremy (and Valerie) Hosack, Jason Hosack, Jennifer Van Buskirk, and Holly Van Buskirk; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild as well as many dear friends, who referred to her as "Mom" or "Auntie Mac."
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Al Luery, and her son Bill.
A graveside service will be held in the spring; notification will be provided closer to the date.
