Debra Ann Durine Burkhart died unexpectedly Oct. 29, 2013, in Klamath Falls, of natural causes.
She was born to Carl Richard Burkhart and Della Mae Shiffer Feb. 4, 1962, in Los Angeles, Calif. She spent her childhood years in Southern California and attended Rio Hondo School in Downey, Calif., and Walnut School in the Diamond Bar, Calif. area.
She loved animals, laughed a lot and made friends easily.
After moving to Klamath Falls with her family in 1974, she attended Brixner Junior High School, Mazama Mid-High School and graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1980.
She was a great fan of the rock music of the day and she and her best friend Jeane loved the Bay City Rollers Band and the music and dress from John Travolta movies. She was especially fond of the movies "Grease" and "The Wizard of Oz." She continued her love of music and movies throughout her life.
After graduation, she worked in local restaurants and especially enjoyed working at Willy's Pizza in the old Shasta Plaza.
Debra met and married Kevin Greenwald in Klamath Falls on Oct. 9, 1982. They had four children, Christopher William Greenwald, twins Corey Richard Greenwald and Kimberly Jeane Greenwald, and Lynzee Jana Mae Greenwald. She truly loved her children and dutifully took care of their needs as they grew up.
After the economic slowdown in the area, Debra and Kevin decided to move their family to the Tri-Cities in Washington area and later to Walla Walla, Wash., where they both began working for Albertson's Markets. Debra and her husband left Albertson's and operated their own business in Walla Walla for a short time called Winsom's Foods
Debra and Kevin divorced in 2005 and Debra then became employed by Safeway Markets in Walla Walla. She often worked two jobs as a single parent. While employed at Safeway, she was promoted to a supervisor position and received on-the-job awards.
In 2010, Debra decided to return to Klamath Falls, where she grew up.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Della Burkhart and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She is survived by her father, Carl R. Burkhart; step-mother, Judy Burkhart; uncle, Roy Shiffer, Jr. and wife, Linda and family of Klamath Falls; brother, Darrell Burkhart and wife, Rosa their children, Arielle and Joshua Burkhart of Klamath Falls; sister, Denise Sinclair-Burkhart of Idaho and her children, Amara and Stephen Sinclair; brother, Billy Davis and family of Texas; Debra's children Christopher Greenwald, Corey Greenwald, Kimberly Grider and husband Alex Grider, and Lynzee Greenwald; and two grandchildren, Aurelia and Melora Greenwald, all of Washington. She also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Southern California, Oregon, Washington, Arkansas and Texas.
Eternal Hills Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. She will be cremated and a celebration of life will be at a later date to allow for out-of-state travel.
