Mrs. Hedin, 83, died of natural causes at her residence at Linkville House in Klamath Falls, Ore., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.
Elizabeth was born July 28, 1930, in Middletown, Ohio, to Garrett and Mary Wilson.
She enlisted in the United States Air Force as a teenager. During her enlistment, she met Paul O. Hedin, Sr. and they were married Aug. 9, 1952. Paul preceded her in death in 2001. They raised six children while always on the move to various states during Paul's years of service with the Air Force. Elizabeth worked in several positions as a nurse's aide at Washburn Manor, a secretary for the Children's Services Division and the athletic department secretary at Mazama High School.
She was an avid baseball fan and cherished all of her pets, especially her treasured companion, her dog Gidget. She enjoyed going to and hearing about all of her grandkids' achievements at their schools and sporting events. She loved making big dinners on holidays and having family get-togethers. Traveling to other states to visit her children and siblings was always one of her favorite things to do along with camping and going to the Oregon Coast. She was a Scrabble champion, thoroughly trouncing every opponent brave enough to take her on. She had a very giving heart, wanting to help others anyway she could.
She was an active member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include her children, her daughter, Janice and her husband, Chuck Menke; her sons, Steve and his wife, Debbie Hedin; James and his wife, Pris Hedin; Paul and his wife, Susan; John and his wife, Lynette Hedin; and her daughter, Karen and her husband, Doug Tofell; grandchildren Andrew Menke, Valerie Ponce, Shawna McDole, Sara Hedin, Sam Hedin, Sandra Hedin, Jesse Hedin, Payte Hedin, Thad Hedin, Matt Hedin, Amanda Hedin, Brian Hedin, Brenna Hurst and Adeena Fuller; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was an outstanding mother and grandmother, was loved dearly, and will be greatly missed.
