John Marsango crossed over to be with Jesus on Feb. 7, 2013.
He was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Dawson, N.M., to Joakin and Mary Marsango. Shortly after his father's death from a mining accident in 1920, he returned with his mother and two of three brothers to Northern Italy. At the age of 19, he returned to the land of his birth, joining brothers Vince and Dave in pursuit of their dreams settling in McCloud, Calif.
After his discharge from the Army, he started his career as a machinist apprentice with Southern Pacific Railroad in Dunsmuir, Calif. There he met and married his loving wife of 55 years, Rose D. Durante, and started his family. In 1953, he moved to Klamath Falls, working as a journeyman machinist with the Southern Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed a long career with Southern Pacific and later OC&E Railroad. He settled into retirement in 1983.
John was a longtime member and usher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls. He was dedicated to his family and will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father and friend. Everyone will miss him dearly. John was blessed with a vitality few possess and this health and spirit carried him well into his later years.
John loved being outdoors, especially the forests in and around the Klamath Basin. What was work to some was peace and tranquility to John. He loved gardening, cutting firewood, hunting mushrooms, traveling and bicycling, which was a passion cultivated as a young man in Italy where he raced professionally and carried well into his 80s when he cycled in the Colorado Mountains.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rose and son David.
He is survived by his daughter Madeline Murray of Klamath Falls; daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Phleet Greear of Corsicana, TX; grandson and granddaughter William and Jeannette Murray of Klamath Falls; granddaughters Shannon Murray of Prescott, AZ, and Anastasia Greear of Corsicana, TX; along with numerous loved, loving and compassionate great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens.
