Mearl Lee Caverly (Lee), 85, of Klamath Falls passed away April 28, 2014, in Sky Lakes Medical Center. Private interment will be at the VA National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore.; O'Hair's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. At Lee's request, no public services are to be held; however, the family will host a celebration of life for Lee this summer. Lee was born in Genesee Township, Genesee County, Mich., to William Hector and Margaret Emmaline (Killinger) Caverly on May 18, 1928. He spent most of his childhood in Hillman, Mich., where he was raised. Lee married Mary Ann Pledger Oct. 18, 1963, in Ketchikan, Alaska. Together, they spent 50 wonderful years together. Lee and Mary were happiest when travelling together to see various sites and visiting family, both in the area and in other states. He will especially be missed by his children and grandchildren, to whom he served as a leader, mentor, and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Lee served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949 as an electrician onboard the U.S.S. Kermit Roosevelt, the U.S.S. Bellerophon, and the U.S.S. Ajax. He then served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1954 to 1971 as a telephone technician. He participated in the atomic bomb trials at Bikini Atoll Islands in 1946 while in the Navy. Lee was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 1383, in Klamath Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell and Richard Caverly; grandson, Cailin Caverly; niece, Michelle Webb Christian; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Lee is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Karen Molineaux (Chris), David Caverly (Julie), and Rex Caverly (Rachel); sisters, Phyllis Goodrich of Herron, Mich., and Margaret Ann Barrie of Hillman, Mich.; brother, Hector Caverly of Hillman, Mich.; granddaughters, Melinda (Brandon), Julia, Mary Catherine, Larrysa, Emily, Paige, Allison, and Blaire; grandson, Chance (Chelsea); great-granddaughters, Payton, Aspen, and Harper; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Lee by making a donation in his name to the . The family of Mearl Lee Caverly also wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Pelican Pointe Memory Care, where he resided, and to Sky Lakes Medical Center's nurses, doctors, and health care professionals who helped with Lee's care. Their kind words, loving care, and professional manner during Lee's difficulties helped him and his family through his passing with the dignity he so deserved.
