Mike was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Priscilla Hoches Jackson Bettles and Joseph Bettles. He was the youngest of their eight children.
Mike was a beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was an enrolled member of the Umatilla Tribe. He lived most of his life in Chiloquin and also attended local schools.
He loved spending time with family, cooking, hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He loved music and playing the drums. He was a member of an all-Indian rock band and traveled the country playing music. He was known for his sense of humor and joking.
Mike is survived by his daughter and grandchildren living in Butte Falls, Ore.; his brothers Amory, Robert and Quinten of Chiloquin, Gordon of Eugene, and Terrance of Terrebonne; his sisters Josephine Cafoya of Culver, Ore., and Priscilla Westwick of Vancouver, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the Northwest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Cecil and his sister Jody.
Washat services will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 12, 2013, in the Chiloquin Community Center, Fred Wallulatum Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Hill Cemetery. Dinner will be served at the burial. Everyone is invited to attend and share their memories of Mike.
