Neta was born on July 25, 1919, to Phillip and Cora Haviland Oden near Dairy, Ore., at the family homestead in Pine Flats, established in 1887. She grew up in Dairy and after high school married Victor Nork on June 15, 1937 in Sparks, Nev. They had four children, Victor Joseph Jr., Gerald Dean, Sharon Marie and Joyce Cecilia.
In 1949, Victor was tragically killed in a logging accident, leaving Neta a widow for the last 64 years. She then began a career of nursing, where she attended Oregon Technical Institute, later known as Oregon Institute of Technology, and was in the second graduating class of nurses in 1953. She would go to school for eight hours, work at the hospital for eight hours and continue to raise her family. She worked for the Klamath Valley Hospital, Hillside, Washburn Manor and then for the Klamath Basin Senior Center, where she was the coordinator for the dialysis.
She was a great practical joker, ensuring each grandchild was well instructed in the art of shooting paper wads from a straw, especially in public restaurants.
She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a former member of the grange.
Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family, including her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and loved her animals; she always made sure her grandkids and great-grandkids had a lamb and baby chicks to raise.
Survivors include her children Victor Joseph Jr. and Betty Nork, Sharon and Eddie Tofell, and Joyce Ball; grandchildren Kimberly Nork, Joe Nork, Tracy and Robby Eacret, Doug and Karen Tofell, Josh and Stephanie Smith, Jessica Ball, and Karla Thomas; great-grandchildren Brenna and Denio Hurst, Adeena and Joe Fuller, Michel G. Gouette, Shane and Ashley Richards, and Sam and Noah Smith; great-great-grandchildren Titan Hurst, Makenna Hurst, and Cooper Richards.
She was preceded in death by her husband Victor, son Gerald Dean, grandson Gregory Gouette, and six siblings, three sisters and three brothers.
Eternal Hills Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
