Pershing L. Balding
Pershing Lawrence Balding, a resident of Klamath Falls, died Dec. 13, 2013, at the age of 94. He will be inurned at Deschutes Memorial Gardens at a later date. O'Hair Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Pershing was born in Arco, Idaho June 18, 1919, to Willy R. and Mable (Smith) Balding. The family moved to Ontario, Calif., when Pershing was very young. He went through school in Ontario. He married Nell Riley in Ontario, April 10, 1938. Pershing served in the Navy during WWII as a shipbuilder. After the war, he worked in the automotive industry as a body repairman. In 1967, he moved to Bend, Ore.; and then to Klamath Falls in 2005. His favorite activities included traveling by car throughout the Western U.S., playing golf; and following San Francisco 49ers football. Pershing was also a member of the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Jack and Linda Balding of Klamath Falls, Fred Balding of Las Cruces, N.M.; daughter, Carol Taylor of Alameda, Calif.; grandchildren, Suzanne Delaney of Klamath Falls, Scott Balding of Turner, Ore.; brother, Billy Jay Balding of Bend, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nell; siblings, Chuck Balding, Earl Balding, Georgie Balding, and Gladys Spooner.
