Shelly Baker Anderson
Michelle "Shelly" Baker Anderson, 46, died due to complications from pneumonia with family by her side Nov. 17, 2013, in Sky Lakes Medical Center.
Shelly was born May 25, 1967, in Klamath Falls to Jack and Lynda Baker.
She attended Mazama High School in her freshman year, then graduated from Ashland High School in 1985.
Shelly had a passion for the French language and culture and, with encouragement from a favorite teacher, she traveled to Bordeaux, France, to become an Au Pair (nanny) for a year. During that time, she enjoyed many exciting adventures, traveling through Europe with her French family.
Shelly graduated from Southern Oregon University in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in business administration marketing and then a master's degree in secondary education in 1998.
She taught French for 15 years in Klamath Falls City Schools, beginning at Mazama High School, then Klamath Union High School, and most recently at Klamath Adult Learning Institute. She loved her students and colleagues and happily looked forward to each day of school.
Shelly married Dave Elzner and together they joyfully welcomed their daughter McKenzie Elizabeth Elzner into the world on Dec. 22, 1998. Shelly embraced McKenzie as her greatest gift in life. Being a mom brought her a joy that she had never known before and she treasured that role.
Shelly loved to travel. During her short life, Shelly and her family visited Hawaii, France, England, Scotland and Italy. Shelly and her mom took a walking tour in Ireland. She also visited Jamaica with her second husband, Rick Anderson.
Being outdoors was one of her greatest passions. She loved to go rock climbing, hiking, and on excursions to the Oregon Coast. Shelly loved to spend time at her parents' ranch, enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. Some of the happiest moments of her life were spent working next to her father on the ranch and on construction sites.
Shelly loved her mother's quilts, eagerly collecting a variety of bright, beautiful quilts to hang on her walls at home and school. She loved to wrap up in her special purple "minkee" quilt. She made her first quilt this past summer for a dear friend, laughing as she sewed and ripped seams.
Shelly was a sweet, loving person who brought joy to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Jack (Jackie) Baker.
Survivors include her daughter, McKenzie Elzner; McKenzie's father, David Elzner; her parents, Lynda and Jack Baker; grandmother, Ruth Schorr; husband, Rick Anderson; brothers, Scott Baker (spouse Charlene) and Greg Baker; sister-in-law, Margaret McCadden (spouse Matt); nephews, Avery Baker and Austin and Garrett Baker; nieces Whitney, Dakota, and Jordon Doke; great-nephew, Hagen Balsz; great-niece, Lyrics Sizemore; special friend, Richard Renslow and his family and numerous other family members.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Mt. Laki Presbyterian Church, 12570 Highway 39, followed by a luncheon.
