Roy L. Matchett

Roy L. Matchett passed away at his home in Klamath Falls, Ore., on Oct. 31, 2009, at the age of 85.
He was born in Kapowsin, Wash., on July 24, 1924, to Roy and Thelma Matchett.
After graduating from Kapowsin High School in 1942, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, serving in home waters and the South Pacific and North Pacific theaters during World War II.
When discharged in 1946, he returned to the state of Washington, where he owned and operated a service station.
On Aug. 8, 1947, he married Jeanne Munson. They made their home in Puyallup, Wash., and later lived in Eugene, Ore., where Roy worked for Oil Filter Service Company.
Roy and Jeanne moved their family in 1957 to Lakeview, Ore., where they eventually established a successful heavy construction company, retiring in 1991. They relocated to Klamath Falls in 2004.
Roy was also a licensed pilot who owned several airplanes over the years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and prospecting.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanne of Klamath Falls; sons Kevin of Jacksonville, Lee and wife Cheryl Matchett of Klamath Falls, and Ron and wife Janell Matchett of Klamath Falls; sister Delores Matchett of Klamath Falls; grandchildren Kristina, Derek, Jenna, Amy, Joel, Lacy, Sarah, Mary, Drew, and Olivia; and one great-grandson Lian.
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 10, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Klamath Christian Center, 6100 Church Hill Drive.
