John C. "Mac" McFarland, Jr., 78, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at his Klamath Falls residence with family by his side. He was born in Klamath Falls Dec. 9, 1935 to John, Sr., and Gracia McFarland. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1955, prior to his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force. He married Barbara Ann McFall in November 1957. They were married for 56 years and had four children. After his four-year military service, he began his 50-year career with the U.S. Forest Service in 1959 and retired from the Fremont-Winema National Forest Service in 2009. During his lifetime, he accompanied his sons on a 50-mile Boy Scout hike from Crater Lake to Lake of the Woods, Ore. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family. He was an original member of the Klamath Chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation, a member of the Oregon Hunters Association and a former member of the Rocky Mountain Elks. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, John C. McFarland III, Douglas R. McFarland (Tevis B); daughters, Jeannette M. Batten and Debby Ann Judd; son-in-law, Mike Judd; six grandchildren: Jeramy McFarland, Gandy Batten; granddaughter-in-law, Trista Batten; granddaughters, Grace "Annie" McFarland, Kattie, Jessica, and Jennifer McFarland; his step-grandson, Michael Judd (Corie); and nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Laurine "Sis" Hill (Ken), Anchorage, Ala.; and brother-in-law, Ben Morrison. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert McFarland; two sisters, Dolores Morrison and Donna Waggoner; his granddaughter-in-law, Tara McFarland; and great-granddaughter, Madison McFarland. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, in Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God, 2610 Shasta Way, Klamath Falls, OR, with a potluck reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
