Stephen Thomas Harris, 85, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at his residence in Sprague River with family by his side. Stephen was born in Kansas City, Mo., March 22, 1929. After graduating from high school, he attended college and began a career in broadcasting. After serving in the Navy, he married Flora C. Harris (Northcutt) in 1949 in Pasadena, Calif. They moved to Oregon in 1952. Stephen spent time in broadcasting and then became a log scaler for Weyerhaeuser Co. Stephen was an avid "hounds man" and loved hunting bears and cougars with his hound dogs. He also loved fishing, camping and spending time in the outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Flora; sons, Van L. (Tamara) Harris of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Tom (Stephanie) Harris of Roseburg, Ore.; daughter, Diane (Bill) VanDusen of Bonanza, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Poole. You will be missed and loved by many. We mourn the loss of your strong spirit, but laugh at our memories and take comfort in knowing where you rest. You're hunting in the most plentiful land with your best dogs. May the sounds of your hounds follow you forever. Special thanks to Sherrie for her ever loving care. A celebration of life potluck and barbecue for all his family and friends will be Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Stephen and Flora's residence on Sprague River Road.
