Elida Legget passed away on Sept. 26, 2012, in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Elida was born in Bray, Calif., on Jan. 27, 1927, to Italian immigrants Guglielmo and Angelina DeBortoli.
She lived a short time in Dorris and Lakeview before moving to Chiloquin. She graduated from Chiloquin High School and attended the University of Oregon, where she majored in music. After returning to Chiloquin, she worked at the telephone company as a switchboard operator for 12 years.
Elida had a beautiful voice and sang at church, weddings and funerals. She also sang at the grand opening of Highway 97 relocation held at Collier State Park in 1948. In 1951, she was selected as a talent act for Horace Heidt's Radio Show National Youth Opportunity Contest in which she won the highest award.
She married James Legget on May 13, 1956, and they lived in Chiloquin until they moved to Klamath Falls to raise their family. She dedicated her life to her family. Her children and her granddaughters were her pride and joy.
Later in life she worked at both the Klamath County and Favell museums.
She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and the Sons of Italy.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law: David and Dianna Legget, Mark and Julie Legget; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Russell Weatherby; granddaughters Ashley and Brittany Legget, all of Klamath Falls. She also leaves nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Reno DeBortoli Sr. and Elido DeBortoli and niece Diane Eck.
A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Klamath Falls. Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd, 541-883-3458 is in charge of arrangements.
