Shirley Jean Waldrip, 81, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012.

She was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Portland, Ore.
Shirley was a loving homemaker and former owner of Desert Gardens Nursery. She was an active member of the Yuma Mesa Homemakers.
She moved to Tulelake, Calif., in 1937 and graduated from Tulelake High School in 1948. She married Thomas E. Waldrip in January 1949 and moved in 1957 to Yuma, Ariz., where they raised their three sons Thomas Jr., Richard W. and Ronald Waldrip. She opened and ran Desert Gardens Nursery until she became unable to operate it.
Along with gardening, she loved to search out antiques.
Shirley is survived by her husband Thomas E. Waldrip Sr., sons Ronald K. Waldrip and Richard W. (Melissa) Waldrip and sister Florence (Bill) Beller.
She was preceded in death by her son Thomas E. Waldrip Jr.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Mortuary and a funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in Johnson Chapel in Yuma. Her final resting place will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Javier Herrera, Jeff Beller, Rick Waldrip, Bill Beller, Ron Waldrip and Diane Jung. Honorary pallbearers will be Justo Avalos, Ted Fish, Bill Waldrip, Trish Slezak, Maryann Thompson and Jim Hill.
