Edwin Metters Obituary

Edward William Metters Jr. was born January 30, 1922 in Glendale, Calif. He was the son of Edward William Metters Sr. and Gladys Catherine Benson Metters. He enlisted in the Army April 1942 and served in North Africa and Europe. He received the Bronze Star for battle activities.

After his discharge in 1945, he married Neva Marie Martin from Hancock, Iowa on June 13, 1946. Together they lived on a farm and had two children Sheryl Ann and Edward Lynn. In 1950 Edward moved his family to Lakewood, Calif. to start a new life. He was employed by Oilwell Supply a division of U.S. Steel. In 1965 he was transferred to Dallas, Texas and became an assistant to the president and in charge of equipment production.

After retirement in 1984 Ed and Neva move to their lake home on Lake Texoma in Pottsboro. Ed was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Masonic Scottish Rite, Eastern Star and a member of Lakeway United Methodist Church.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his son Edward Lynn Metters. He is survived by his loving wife Neva Marie Metters of 66 years and his daughter Sheryl Ann and husband A. Eugene Gaddy of Dallas, daughter-in-law Karen Brown Metters of Florida. Surviving grandchildren include Jodi Noell, Carlinda Stephens, Wendi Markley, Scott Metters and Derek Shane Recer and nine great-grandchildren all of Florida and Connecticut. Also surviving is his sister Margaret Metters Martin of Hancock, Iowa.

Mr. Metters passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Texoma Medical Center, Denison.

Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at the Lakeway United Methodist Church of Pottsboro, Texas. Reception following.

Interment will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
