BONHAM - James Robert "J.R". Dennington, 96, also known as "Shorty," passed away on Friday January 10, with his loving family at his side. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at 2 p.m. Wednesday January 15, 2014 in the Willow Wild Cemetery, Bonham with Rev. Rex Jackson officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
J.R. was born on July 10, 1917, in Quanah, Texas and was the last surviving son of the late, William and Bertha Hackney Dennington. He was a veteran and served as a fighting Sea Bee in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
J.R. worked for Phillips Petroleum as an oil man before moving to Bonham where he worked at Southwest Pump for over 20 years. He was a Master Carpenter and was instrumental in the building of the Sam Rayburn Library in Bonha as well as a talented musician, farmer and an avid traveler.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maebelle Dennington and ex-wife, Dean McCarter, stepson, Ray Waters of Jacksonville, FL; along with four brothers and one sister. J.R. moved to Jacksonville in 2004 with his only daughter, Pamela Dennington Ricks of Jacksonville, Fla.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Ricks of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepdaughter, Shirley Smith of Boerne; stepson, Kenneth Waters of Southmayd; grandson, Kevin Milner of Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughters, Kimberley Nichols of Beach Park, Ill., Tina Vista of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Tara Myers of Raytown, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren and nine great-greatgrandchildren.
