Jeanne Lenoir Nelson

MCALESTER, Okla. - Born Jeanne Lenoir Barnes on April 4, 1926 in McAlester, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, she died at age 88. She married Kelly D. Nelson August 31, 1945, shortly after WW II. Jeanne was a retired teacher, loving wife and mother. After Kelly's death in June 2010 she sold their home in McAlester and moved to a guest cottage on her son Joe and daughter-inlaw Jan's farm in Collinsville, Texas.

She is survived by her sons, John K. Nelson and wife Nancy Jo of Smithville, Mo. and Joe M. Nelson and wife Jan of Collinsville, Texas; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Kelly D. Nelson and her daughter, Sandra Shuler.

Jeanne volunteered at the McAlester library for a number of years and served on the Oklahoma State Library Board. She also volunteered at the Frink School, teaching children to read. She was also an accomplished seamstress and designed award winning quilts.

There will be a memorial service for Jeanne on Friday at 2 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 N. Travis Sherman, Texas 75090. Chaplain Scott Lowrey will officiate.
