Ruth-Lee (Taylor) Cason

Ruth-Lee Taylor Cason died in the early morning of November 17, 2013. She was born September 3, 1923 in her family home located in Van Alstyne. She was loved and appreciated by her family and numerous friends. While the world changed greatly over her 90 years, Ruth-Lee's strong sense of decency, caring, and humor never did. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Van Alstyne on Saturday, November 23 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in Ruth-Lee's name to the Van Alstyne Public Library.

Preceding Ruth-Lee in death were her husband, William Charles Cason, and her parents, Noel Creed Taylor and Margaret Alline Evans Taylor. Also preceding her were brothers Surce John Taylor and Leslie Armour Taylor and sisters Nelda Jane Taylor Pattie and Marjorie Creed Taylor DeFord.

Ruth-Lee graduated from Van Alstyne High School and attended the University of Texas. She worked at various places including Perrin Air Force Base. She retired from Austin College after many years of service. She lived most of her life in the Van Alstyne house that her parents built in 1911. Recently, health problems brought her to Agape Senior Care in Richmond.

Ruth-Lee is survived by her son, William Charles Cason Jr., and her daughters, Julia Alline Cason McDaniel and Nelda Creed Cason Roberts. She also has five grandchildren, Courtney, Julie, Nathan, Taylor, and Georgia Ruth. In addition, she has two great grandchildren, Garrison and Gretchen. She has two sons-in-law, Richard McDaniel and Ricky Roberts, and one daughter-in-law, Kerry Howell.

All who knew her were aware of what a special lady Ruth-Lee Cason was. She was a smart, strong, and independent woman who was dedicated to her family, friends, and community. We all aspire to be the kind of person that she was. At the end of each prayer, she would say, "…and give us a grateful heart." She certainly had one for the wonderful life she lived.
