Steven Rudig Obituary
Steve was an All-State trumpet player at Denison High School and graduated with the Class of 1977.
He earned a Bachelor of Music Education from ETSU under direction of Mr. James Keene, and a Master of Music Education with minor in Computer Science from SMU.
Teaching for thirty-years, at Harlingen, Allen, Coppell, Rockwall, Highland Park, Mt. Pleasant, and Garland, he inspired a generation of musicians to aspire to excellence.
A professional trumpeter, he played with the Dallas Jazz Orchestra and Dallas Cowboys Band. He performed the Star Spangled Banner for three presidents: Reagan, G.H.W. Bush, and Clinton.
He was preceded in death by parents Donald Rudig and Marjorie Putman of Sherman, grandparents, Albert Rudig and Blanche Ham of Verona, Missouri and Lee Ben Putman and Marjorie Phelps of Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
Steve was laid to rest March 25 at Rest Haven, Rockwall, TX, Garden of Prayer, lot 577, space C under direction of Rest Haven of Rockwall.

Mr Rudig was my 6th grade band instructor at Rockwall Intermediate School. I credit him with opening my eyes to see music I ways I never had before. Thank you Mr. Rudig

Mr Rudig was my band teacher at Rockwall Intermediate School back in the early 1990's. His passion for music opened my eyes to the world of Jazz, Classical and even New Age. Even though I only continued with band for another two years, the one year I spent with Mr Rudig will always be special to me.

I knew Steve from my high school years, when he and I were both members of the German polka band at Denison High School during my senior year. We had a lot of fun being a part of that small ensemble. Very sad news to hear of his passing.

I was honored to participate with Steve and a lot of other good people in the 1976/77 Wind Ensemble at Denison. He was the best of the best even back then. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during these difficult times. Rest in peace my friend.

I first met Steve when he was an 8th grader at Hughes Junior High in Denison, Texas. He showed an immense musical talent at that early age. Very saddened to hear of his passing.
