SHERMAN - Graveside funeral services for Dr. Dan Emory Hampton will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday December 3 at Friendship Cemetery. Rev. Steve Rice of First Baptist Church will officiate with military honors conducted by the Ft. Hood Army Honor Guard. Dr. Hampton passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his home after an illness.

Dan was born March 23, 1937 in Dallas, the son of Connie Winchell and Dr. Dan E. Hampton. He graduated from Highland Park High School, University of Texas, Baylor Graduate School and the Baylor College of Dentistry. He married Nancy Carevic at Highland Park Methodist Church on June 21, 1963. They were married over 50 years.
Dan served as a captain in the U.S. Army, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1967. He moved to Sherman in 1968 and practiced dentistry here for 25 years. He was a soccer coach for the Boys Club of Sherman for many years and was president of the Optimist Club.
He enjoyed his hobbies of raising Beefmaster cattle, fixing cars at Grayson College Autobody School, and building and flying model airplanes. He was also a member of the R.C. Flyers Club and First Baptist Church.
Dr. Hampton is survived by his wife Nancy of Sherman; four sons, Tony and wife Catherine of Colleyville, Ben and wife Katie of Overland Park, Kan., Tim and wife Abby of Keller, and Matt and wife Jodi of Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Pierce, Grace, Jillian, Carson, Emma, Claire, Kensey, Tessa, and Mason. Other relatives include a brother, John Robert Hampton of Lacy, Wash. and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson, Fannin, and Collin County, the First Baptist Church of Sherman, or the Salvation Army.
