After being raised in Sherman and attending Jefferson Elementary School, David graduated from Sherman High School in 1958. He then attended Austin College, graduating in 1962. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force.

Wolfe told David of his vision of David coming to work for A.G. Edwards and Sons. Beginning as a broker with the firm, he had become vice president and then regional manager of the Southwest Region. He retired in May of 2006.
David served on the Sherman City Council and in 1983 was elected mayor for the city of Sherman. During David's term as mayor, he was instrumental in securing Sherman's present water treatment system. He was a member of the Sherman Rotary Club, The Elks Club, and he was a Master Mason. David was a founding member of "The Sinner's Bible Study." Frankie and David were members of the Outrigger Canoe Club in Waikiki.
David loved his family, he loved his job, retirement, and all of his friends. He loved Hawaii and all the time he spent there.
