Edward L. Pate


1931 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
SHERMAN - Edward was born on August 29th, 1931 in Indianapolis, Ind. to Melvin and Edith (Eastes) Pate and passed from this life on May 3rd, 2014 at the age of 82.

Edward attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He married the love of his life Nancy Lee Ohlsen Pate on October 3, 1955 in Westminster, Colo. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1969 after serving twenty years. He was last stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Okla.

After his military retirement, he worked overseas for many years in the aviation support industry. Edward spent much of the last part of his life caring for his wife of 57 years after she became disabled.

Edward had a giving spirit and was generous to friends in need. He was a man of simple needs and made friends wherever he went. In his recent time he enjoyed building and repairing computers and tinkering in his shop.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and wife. In addition, he was predeceased by siblings Audrey, Chuck, Frank, Florence, Frieda, Gerald, Geraldine, Jim, and Paul.

The family thanks the many wonderful and hard-working caregivers who attended Edward at Wilson N. Jones and Texoma Medical Center.

He is survived by his daughter, Edith Gossett and husband Dennis of Euless, Texas; sons, James Pate and wife Mandy of Roanoke, Texas, Brian Pate and wife Susan of Allen, Texas, and Craig Pate and wife Cindy of Sherman, Texas; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and sister Pauline Postlewaite of Indianapolis, Ind.

A private memorial service is planned.
