Geneva Guess Obituary

SHERMAN - Geneva "Mama Ge or GeGe" Guess, a long-time resident of Sherman, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2011 at Homestead of Sherman, surrounded by her family whom she adored and loved with all her heart and soul. She was born on February 4, 1917 to Price and Hallie Bryant in Whiterock, Texas and attended Whiterock School District.

On March 20, 1934 she married the late Dozie Guess. To that union, seven were born. The late Franklin Guess and the late Gladys Parker. Surviving children are Rozella Patterson (I.A.) of Van Alstyne, Texas, Weneva Jacobs (and the late Dan Jacobs), Mae Joyce Patterson (Larry) and Patsy Scruggs, all of Sherman. She also leaves to cherish her memory two adopted daughters, Gail (Scott) White, of Sherman and Kim (Scott) Senacsi of Metaire, La.; 29 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 18 great-greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Geneva pursued a domestic occupation for prominent families in the Grayson County area. She was employed by the late Dr. Harold and Dorothy Scott for many years before retiring. Geneva's passion was cooking (everyone enjoyed her delicious home-cooked meals) and entertaining was one of her many gifts. Her hobbies were fishing, family gatherings and dominoes. She was an active member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Sherman until her health began to decline.

Funeral arrangements are as follows: Viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Cravens Funeral Home, 225 W. Brockett, Sherman. A special thanks to Quality Home Health, Texoma Home Health, Homestead of Sherman and Heart to Heart.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church with eulogy by Erie D. Furtch of Fellowship Church in Paris, Texas and Pastor Raford Malone officiating the service.

Active pallbearers will be Robbie Parker, Darrel Akers, Curlee Baldwin, Lester Baldwin, Brittney Posey and Aubrey Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Darron Cravin, Phelan Guess, Gary Parker and Leland Guess.

So sorry I had to hear about this on Facebook :-(. My Aunt Gee, I remember so well. I often recall sitting on my grandmother's porch when she arrived to just have a sit down and chat with my g-moma, Lavada Heart, her friend Annie Mae. Boy! Do I remember those days so clearly. We were always held to go fix my g-moma company plates so they could enjoy her cooking. My gmoma love to cook everyday and everyday we seemed to have company :-). Those were the good old days. I will miss my Aunt Gee, but I'm glad she is at peace now and in no more pain. We should hope to live as long. May God be with YOU Auntie!
