L.T. White Obituary
SHERMAN - L.T. White was born in Tulia, TX, Sept. 20, 1928, to parents, Loy T. and Irene Nelson White. He passed Feb. 22, 2014, in Sherman, TX, at 85 years of age. L.T. grew up in Tulia and Canyon, TX, and graduated from West Texas High School in Canyon. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Wayland Baptist College, and his Master of Science in Education from Baylor University. L.T. taught his first year in Plainview, TX, and then served two years in the US Army, during the Korean conflict.

Accepting a teaching position offered by Superintendent Byron Davis, L.T. moved to Sherman in 1954. During his 32-year career in elementary education with Sherman ISD, he taught at Crockett, and then was Principal at Crockett, Fairview, Perrin, and Crutchfield schools, retiring in 1986. In September 2008, the Sherman Ex-Students Association recognized him as Outstanding Past Educator of the Year.

Dec. 4, 1962, L.T. began his 50 years of perfect attendance with the Sherman Rotary Club. During that time he served as Club President, and District Governor (86-87).

He was one of six Past District Governors that were responsible for starting PETS (President Elect Training Seminar), served five years as a PETS board member, and was recognized with "Paul Harris Fellowship" award.

L.T. was baptized at First Baptist Church, Tulia, TX, on December 19, 1937. He joined First Baptist Church Sherman in 1954. In 60 plus years of continuous service he held many leadership roles, including Chairman of the Deacons and Sunday School Superintendent. L.T. was very involved in his community, and worked closely with Friends of the Sherman Public Library, United Way, and other area causes. In 1957, he was one of eight founding members of what is now known as Texoma Teacher's Credit Union.

On Oct. 7, 1950, L.T. married Patsy Ann Taylor in Morton, TX. They had been married for 52 years upon her death in 2003.

He married Betty Mershon on Dec. 17, 2005.

L.T. is survived by his son Gary (and Karen) White, of Sherman; son Randy (and Kathy) White, of McKinney, and grandson Ryan White, of McKinney; brother HD (and Myrtle) White, of Amarillo; sister Sue Merrill, of Lubbock; sister-in-law Dorothy (and Winston) Jerden, of Morton, TX; sister-in-law Jimmie Buchanan, of Corsicana; and numerous nieces and nephews; wife Betty White, of Sherman; her son Phillip (and Susan) Mershon, of North Carolina, and their daughter Myla; her daughter Tina (and David) Borden, of Plano, and their children Connor and Brooke; her son Brett (and Kayce) Mershon, of McKinney, and their children Conner and Kamryn.

L.T. was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Oma Lee White and Artie Nell Pinkerton.

Family visitation will be held at Waldo Funeral home on Monday, Feb. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Dr. Mike Lawson will lead the memorial services for LT White, to be held at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Sherman, on Tuesday, Feb. 25. First Baptist Church deacons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FBC Christian Education Memorial Scholarship Fund, at First Baptist Church, 400 S. Travis, Sherman, TX 75090 or to the Sherman Rotary Club Charitable and Scholarship Foundation at P.O. Box 3285, Sherman, TX 75091.
