SHERMAN – Magdalene Swartzrock went home to be with her family and Lord at peace on August 2, 2014.|
Magdalene was born to Claude and Bernice Orterburn on November 5, 1922, in Cavaness, Texas, in Lamar, County. Both parents are deceased.
She married Roy Swartzrock on November 27, 1946, in Bonham, Texas by Reverend Henry Mood.
Magdalene graduated from Ladonia High School, Ladonia, Texas and was the youngest in her class. She completed her Masters degree at East Texas State Teacher's College also as the youngest in her class, needing only six hours to fill her Doctor's degree.
Magdalene taught school for 35 years and retired from Sherman Public Schools in 1979. She helped organize the Ostomy Chapter, serving as president for ten years. She volunteered at Old Medical Plaza Hospital also serving as president. She was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church. Member of UMW; active in the Ladies Noon group, Great Days of Service; and also worked in the Fiesta 19 years. Her hobbies were fishing, reading and cooking.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Dodd City Cemetery, Dodd City, Texas. Rev Joe Ed Goolsby and Rev Cassie Wade of First United Methodist Church of Sherman will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
