TOM BEAN - Funeral services for Willis Ray Thurman, age 72, of Tom Bean, Texas was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24 at the First Baptist Church in Tom Bean, Texas with Rev. Craig Rippy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas.|
Mr. Thurman passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. Willis was born the son of Dennis ""Doc"" Thurman and Ruth Murphy Thurman in Bower, Okla. on October 8, 1941. He married Mary Benson on December 24, 1960 in McAlister, Okla. They lived in Eufaula before moving to Tom Bean about ten years ago.
Willis was a very active church member at the First Baptist Church in Tom Bean. He loved riding four wheelers with his sons and his grandkids.
Willis is survived by his wife, Mary Thurman of Tom Bean, Texas, two sons, Brad Thurman and wife Melba of Howe, Texas and Scott Thurman and wife Joyce of Howe, Texas, four grandchildren, Cody Thurman, Colton Thurman, Taylor Thurman and Austin Thurman and one sister, Bertha Dale Black of Porum, Okla.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Mr. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents.
The family received friends on Friday, May 23rd from 7 to 9 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. on Saturday following church service at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eufaula.
