Charles R. Roberts Sr.

Obituary Condolences

DENISON - A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Charles Roberts, 81, of Denison at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Waples Memorial United Methodist Church, under the direction of Bratcher Funeral Home with Roy Spore officiating. Roberts passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at his home in Denison surrounded by family, under the care of American Hospice. Charles was born April 3, 1931 in Colbert, Okla., the son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Roberts. His family moved to Denison when he was a boy. He married M. Alice Hock of Denison April 5, 1952.

Roberts served in the United States Army during the Korean War, served as a Commander during 1970 and 1971, and held many other positions in the Denison V.F.W. Post 2773, and the Denison American Legion Post 62, where he held several positions along with commander. He also served for years in the Grayson County Veterans Organization. During his time serving in Veteran's organizations, he enjoyed the task of organizing multiple Veterans' Day parades as he was the driving force in 2009 of re-initiating the parade. He retired from the Lone Star Gas Co. after 32 years.

Family and staying active with the Veterans was very important to Charles. He was a loving Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He was also a member of the First Christian Church of Denison.

Roberts was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harley and Harvey Roberts; a son, Charles R. Roberts Jr.; and a daughter, Pamela A. Coleman. Roberts is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, M. Alice Roberts; daughter, A. Elaine Manning and son-in-law, Robert F. of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughter Debra I. Hiner and son-in-law G. Martin Hiner; daughter Sarah J. Roberts; son, Harley R. Roberts of Denison; and seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers are, TC Coffey, Paul Harris, Paul Richards, Jim Brown, Jerry Brode, and Woodrow Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grayson County Veteran's Organization.
