Claude Anderson, 97, of Sherman, died at his home on Jan. 13, 2011. The latter days of his life were according to his wishes, staying at his own home. He was able to do so because of the thoughtfulness and efficiency of two caregivers, Ruth Chaney and Bill Miller.|
Claude was born Sept. 12, 1913 in Clarita, Okla., the son of Henry and Emma (Scott) Anderson. He retired from Texas Power & Light Co. on June 27, 1982 after 36 years of service. Claude married Opal Sligar on June 28, 1932 in Centrahoma, Okla. They were married 72 years prior to her death. The Andersons were founding members of the Sherman Church of the Nazarene, where Claude served on the church board.
Funeral services commemorating Claude's long life will be held under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home at the Sherman Church of the Nazarene on FM 1417, Tuesday at 10 a.m. Family visitation will be Monday, Jan. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Claude was predeceased by his parents; wife, Opal; and six siblings, Marvin Anderson, Cora Anderson Perry, Rod Anderson, Oran Anderson, Don Anderson, and Hubert Anderson. He is survived by his children, Frankie Martin and husband Lendell of Bakersfield, Calif., Jack Anderson and wife Betsy of Sherman, and Andy Anderson and wife Sondra of Blacksburg, S.C.; one brother, Warren Anderson of Gulf Breeze, Fla; six grandchildren, Terry Martin, Cindy Powell, Scott Anderson, Randy Anderson, Casey Anderson and Jim Anderson; and nine great-grandchildren, David, Thomas, Philip and Paul Martin, Hannah Grace Anderson, Eric Powell, and Clayton, Carley and Cole Anderson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Anderson, Randy Anderson, Steve Powell, Eric Powell, Dwayne Anderson, and Bill Miller.
