VAN ALSTYNE - E.J. Batchelor, 85, of Van Alstyne, Texas passed away March 14, 2014.|
E.J. was born March 26, 1928 in Alvord, Texas to Pearl (Bridges) and Alford Batchelor. E.J. served as a Tank Commander in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Rita Medders October 13, 1962 at First Baptist Church Van Alstyne, Texas.
He was a partner in Batchelor Brothers Septic Tank Company, owned E.J.'s Auto Sales, and later worked for VAISD.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and two brothers (Bill and Lynn).
He is survived by his wife of 51+ years, Rita Batchelor, of Van Alstyne, Texas. He is also survived by five daughters: Donna Hampton-Podsaid & husband Paul of Plano, Texas; Sue Sprunger of Raleigh, North Carolina; Sherrie Brown & husband Mike of Quinlan, Texas; Martha McKee & husband Bobbie of Van Alstyne, Texas; Gayle Tomberlin & husband Gary of Van Alstyne, Texas; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous members of his extended family.
He was a kind and gentle man. He was deeply loved and cherished, and will be remembered always.
Family visitation will be Tuesday, March 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. Both will be held at Scoggins Funeral Home, Van Alstyne, Texas. Mark Fletcher of Elmont Baptist Church will conduct the services, with Reggie Gentry of Allen as soloist. Burial will be at Cottage Hill Cemetery, Celina, Texas.
