Pastor James P. Kelly Obituary
DENISON - Services for Pastor James P. Kelly, 86, of Denison will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Trinity Lighthouse Church 2915 Spur 503, Denison, TX 75020 with Pastor Anthony Washington of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church McAlister, Okla. officiating. Family visitation will be held 6 -8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 522 E. Shepherd St. Denison, TX. The church will open at noon on Wednesday for early viewing. Burial will follow at Westhill Cemetery. Flowers may be delivered to the church Wednesday.

Pastor Kelly was born on Aug. 19, 1927 and passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Beacon Hill in Denison surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 19, 1927 to Ernest and Irene Kelly. J. P. graduated in 1945 from Terrell High School. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and served from World War II to the Koren War. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Nell (Dehorney) Kelly on Nov. 4, 1946. His love for the Church, reading the Bible and having a relationship with God lead him to pursue a career as a Pastor for many years. Pastor Kelly was the Shepherd of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hendrix, Okla. for 21 years and Mt. Zion Baptist in Atoka, Okla. for 46 years. He also served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Laborers International Union of North Texas for 31 years and was honored for 50 years of service. He was the 3rd Moderator for the Central Wayland District of Churches for the State of Oklahoma. Finally, he worked for W.J. Wood Preserve for 50 years, until his retirement. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church of Denison, Denison Citywide Ministerial Alliance and also a member of the H. C. Coleman Masonic Order.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, James E. Kelly. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Nell Kelly, including children, Minister Frances Rucker Jenkins, Minister Jimmy Kelly and his wife Jackie of Denison, Minister Donnell Kelly and his wife Lynn of San Diego, Calif., Minister Jesse Kelly and his wife Jackie of Denison; Minister Charles Kelly and his wife Cynthia of Sherman, Tommy Joe Kelly and his wife Pauline of Arlington, Michael Kelly and Special friend Kelly of Ft. Worth, Ronnie Kelly and his wife Keita of Duncanville; 51-grand and great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas Rucker lll, Taurus Rucker, Desmond Kelly, Joshua Kelly, Keanon Kelly, Kevin Kelly and Monte Kelly. Honorary Pallbearers will be the children of Pastor Kelly.

The family will be at the home place, 609 E. Shepherd St. Denison, TX, 75020.
