SHERMAN - John F. Leute, 82, of Sherman, graduated from this life to his eternal home in heaven on Friday, May 9, 2014. He was born on July 28, 1931, to Anna Matz Leute Kerrigan, in New York City, N.Y.|
He grew up in New York City living in Queens and Brooklyn. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War, and ended his Air Force tenure at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas. John went to work for the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and worked for that entity as a radar engineer first at the radar site in Sherman and then in Keller, Texas, supporting the DFW airport until his retirement.
John enjoyed electronics and fixing things of all kinds as well as baseball, the Brooklyn Dodgers in his early years and later the Texas Rangers, as well as footall and the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed working in his yard, helping others, and spending time with his family.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Kerrigan, as well as step-father Joe Kerrigan.
He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Leute Chesley and Sheila Leute Old, son-in-law Bill Old, grandchildren, Tallen Chesley, Mylum Chesley, Anna Chesley, Addison Old, Spencer Old, Ashley Old and Clayton Old, and great granddaughter, Camrie Chesley, as well as dear friends, ex-wife Clayrene Wright and husband Earl, and special friend, Denise Shock.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. The Celebration of Life will be on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home with interment at the West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Visitation will be held at Waldo Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
