Kate McCord Obituary
SHERMAN - Kate Moore McCord went to be with her Lord on June 24, 2015. She lived a blessed life, beginning August 18, 1928 in Dallas, Texas as the middle daughter of Melvin Walker Moore and Anna Lucille Dyke Moore. Her love of the outdoors began in their country home in Bluff View, playing outside for hours with her sisters and many friends. Kate attended Stephen J. Hay Elementary school and North Dallas High school and was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Her college career began at Texas Tech University where she was a member of the Koshari Sorority, and loved the great Texas west country. For her junior year she transferred to Austin College where she met her husband of more than 60 years, Ralph Smith "Slats" McCord. They married and graduated from Austin College in 1950. After 5 years in Katy, TX, they moved back to Sherman; to the college where she continued with her cheerleading "career" as wife of a coach, even receiving an Honorary Athletic award from the Austin College 'A' Association. She was, also, a sponsor of the Alpha Delta Chi Sorority and "adopted" many students over the years.

Kate was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church serving as a teacher at both Grand Avenue and First churches and serving as a Deacon and an Elder of the Session at First Presbyterian. Very important to her was the mission work of the church locally and abroad. She wanted everyone to know how wonderful her Lord was.

There were many groups/clubs that she was involved with over the years; including Women of the Church, AC Campus Club, Friends of the Library in Van Alstyne and Sherman, and the Garden Club of Sherman.

Kate was a warm and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to teach her children and grandchildren her love of the outdoors. She, too, spent years helping with the many school activities of her children.

She is survived by 3 children: Martha Kate McCord of Sherman, Matthew Ralph McCord of Kansas City, Mo., and Annabelle McCord Chamberlain with fiancé Johnny Harvey of Bells, Texas; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; dear sister Susan Moore Martin and brother-in-law Bill Moore; three sisters-in-law: Jean Babineaux and Carolyn Williams of Sugar Land, Texas, and Betty McCord of Independence, Mo.; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Kate was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and sister Anna Lucille Moore Hicks.

A celebration of her life with a Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church in Sherman. The Inurnment will follow later that day at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers Kate asked that donations be made to Goodland Children's Home, Presbyterian Children's Home and Services, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, or any .
