SHERMAN - Kenneth Doyle Adams, 74, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at his home in Sherman.|
Kenneth Adams was born March 30, 1939 in Red Rock, Ark., the son of Lester and Orpha (Dotson) Adams. He was born into a large family, and from a young age he learned family values that he carried with him the rest of life.
Kenneth served his country proudly in the National Guard and the Army, and displayed true pride in the nation that he loved.
Mr. Adams married Jacqueline Quantrell on October 25, 1975 in Wichita, Kan. Kenneth, and his family lived in Albuquerque, N.M. for many years before selling their home in 2000 to travel around the country in their motor coach. Kenneth and Jackie traveled in their RV to every state in the U.S. except Hawaii. In 2007, Kenneth and Jackie moved to Sherman and have been members of the First United Methodist Church in Sherman ever since.
Mr. Adams delighted in his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He had a special pride in his garden, and was known for his beautiful Cockscomb plants. His beautiful flowers returned again this year, despite his inability to tend to his garden due to his health. Mr. Adams was a man who blessed many and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Adams is survived by his loving family, wife of 38 years, Jackie Adams of Sherman; son, Jeff Adams and wife Beverly, of Los Lunas, N.M.; daughter, Traci Adams of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Trey, Derreck, Lauren, Jackie, Rebecca and Kenny; great-grandchild, Avianna; three brothers, Hoyle Adams of Russellville, Ark., Arnold Adams of Austin, and Darrell Adams of Argyle; three sisters, Velma Settles of O'Fallon, Mo., Faye Dicks of Sherman and Sharon Baughman of Sherman; and he was the favorite uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Toy Adams, Donley Adams and O'Dell Adams; and two sisters, Maritta Holey and Ethel Gunter.
A memorial service for Mr. Adams will be held at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sherman with Rev. Cassie Wade officiating. There is no set time for family visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Kenneth's name to First United Methodist Church, 401 N. Elm St., Sherman, TX 75090, or Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center St., Sherman, TX 75092.
