Laura Barrett Obituary

Laura Barrett, 59, of Westerville, Ohio passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011.
Laura was born in Roswell, N.M., daughter of the late Arnold and Nancy Steel. Also preceded in death by her brother, Willie Steel. Laura grew up in Sherman, and it was there where she met and married her beloved husband Don, and the two of them went on to share in 39 years marriage. Laura was a very supportive military wife and has lived all over the world. She truly embodied the title of domestic engineer, enjoying the opportunity to be with her children while they were growing up while still pursuing her career as a medical administrative assistant. Laura is a wonderful cook and baker and an established cake decorator. She loved entertaining and was happiest in the kitchen, either cooking or baking for family and friends. Being a grandmother was also something Laura was especially proud of. Spending time with her four grandchildren, whether it was one of their many trips to the zoo or taking time out to snuggle, were things she enjoyed very much.
She will be missed by her husband, Don Barrett; children, Charity (Mike Stackhouse) Seymour and her children, Katie and Nathan, Christy (Kevin) Wenger and their children, Kiley and Drake, and Donald Barrett; siblings, Shirley Hopson, Ethel Thorn, Arnold Steel, and Betty Dill; and many other extended family members, co-workers, and dear friends.
A celebration of Laura's life will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., where family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until time of service.
Laura's family would like to thank the staff with Mt. Carmel Hospice, especially Sandy, for the wonderful care and support they gave. Contributions may be made to the Mt. Carmel Hospice, c/o Mt. Carmel Foundation, 793 W. State St., Columbus, OH 43222. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.schoedinger.com.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time of grief. The wife and I met Laura at the office she worked at and always admired her cheerfulness and her strength. She was always strong when things seemed to go awry. We will miss her smiling face and her love of her work and friends-she's now in a better place-God bless..Ned&Mary Braun
